LMT continues to introduce the next generation 5G data transmission in Latvia. In May, the first customers received 5G routers developed by the Latvian innovation technology companies LMT and MikroTik, and several hundred of them have already started using 5G at home and in offices.

Until now, the 5G was available to companies and universities only for research purposes, as well as in mobile smart devices that support 5G. The LMT and MikroTik solution supports 5G not only in mobile devices, but also in home Internet: this will become the first experience of this kind in Latvia.

“LMT focused its efforts on the development of 5G networks and solutions, and now it offers the first Latvian made 5G routers developed in cooperation with the national ICT heavyweight MikroTik: this starts a new era in the Latvian technology innovation and promises new export opportunities. Yet again, this demonstrates that the Latvian ICT sector can create innovative products that can be exported instead of importing them from other countries. It also offers a unique opportunity to users: to be the first in Latvia to use 5G at home, the first to start using a Latvian-made 5G router, and to participate in the development of this new network, as the experience of these customers will allow the LMT to improve its services and set a new generation standard by developing 5G in other cities of Latvia,” underlines Juris Binde, the president of LMT.

The new routers support both downloading and uploading of data with unprecedented speed that will ensure better user experience even during peak hours, and allow to enjoy faster Internet, video streaming in several devices at the same time, etc. The theoretical maximum download speed of the new routers is 2.0 Gbps, and the upload speed 200 Mbps. According to developers, this technology supports 4*4 MIMO, and its software is managed by MicroTik and Winbox apps.

“The more effort and resources we invest in technological development today, the more technologically advanced we will become in the future. Quite recently, 5G was just an innovative idea, but now we witness the result of our targeted efforts: the first Latvian-made 5G router that will allow all Latvian residents to enjoy high-speed data transmission at home. We see that thanks to cooperation with LMT 5G has become more and more accessible to everyone, at the same time securing new opportunities for Latvia to export this locally made technology,” claims John Tully, the co-owner and Chairman of the Management Board of MikroTik.

Due to the limited stocks, the LMT 5G routers are now available only in Ādaži, however, other residents of Latvia will be able to receive 5G routers as the LMT 5G network is developed.
