4G is the fourth generation Internet network that is based on the LTE Internet technology. Internet speed in a 4G network is several times higher than even theoretically possible in a 3G network (theoretical download speed of 150 Mbit/s, upload speed of up to 50 Mbit/s), it is also more stable and has a significantly shorter latency period (time from the activation of an Internet link to the beginning of a download).
4G can be compared to a new highway built along several narrow streets. 4G will be able to meet the demands of all users, offering fast downloading, high resolution video streaming, impeccable gaming performance in real time, etc.
LMT 4G network continuously expands and is currently available in most areas of Latvia.
Check our coverage map for the current 4G coverage.
LMT offers 4G+ technology that is able to increase the already high speed of LMT 4G Internet on mobile phones almost twofold. Actual speed depends on the location, number of users per base station and other factors.
4G+ is not subject to any additional charges.
Dial-up is the first generation Internet that uses calls instead of packets to transfer data. Very slow, considering modern requirements – only up to 9.6 Kbit/s. Dial-up uses the LMT communications network that covers 98% of Latvia.
2G is the second generation Internet that uses GPRS and EDGE technologies. Unlike dial-up, this technology uses packets to send data, though the speed is still too low for current requirements (up to 236 Kbit/s). LMT 2G network is available in 98% of Latvia.
3G is the third generation Internet that relies on UMTS or W-CDMA, HSPA and HSPA+ technologies. Like 2G, 3G also uses packets to send data though the speed is much higher – up to 21 Mbit/s. LMT has the largest 3G network in Latvia – it is available in 93% of the Latvian territory.

4G is available in the whole of Latvia, for example, in Riga, Liepāja, Ventspils, Jūrmala, Jelgava, Daugavpils, Rēzekne, Valmiera, Cēsis, Sigulda, Inčukalns, Limbaži, Madona, Cesvaine, Jēkabpils, Pļaviņas, Skrīveri, Aizkraukle, Ogre, Lielvārde, Ķekava, Iecava, Olaine, Smiltene, Aloja, Mazsalaca, Salacgrīva, Dobele, Saldus, Kuldīga, Talsi, Roja, Mārupe, Piņķi, Aizpute, Ķekava, Saulkrasti, Ādaži, Kadaga, Tukums, Carnikava, Garciems, Vecāķi, Jaunciems, Langstiņi, Jāņupe, etc.
LMT 4G relies on the advanced LTE technology that can provide for a theoretical download speed of up to 150 Mbit/s and upload speed of up to 50 MBit/s. But in practice this speed is lower and is not guaranteed due to various technical, physical, geographical and other factors (distance to the base station, surrounding buildings, design of buildings, etc.). If the network is not overloaded, the average 4G speed should be available.
Internet speed gauge is available here.
4G functionality is available to all LMT customers irrespective of the type of their connection, as well as to the users of the LMT Karte.
1. You have to have an LMT connection with activated 4G support.
All customers that use HOME INTERNET and OFFICE INTERNET, have their 4G support activated by default. In case of regular and mobile Internet connections 4G support is activated for free on request, or automatically when you start using a 4G device.
2. You require a 4G device (phone, modem, router or tablet) with the latest version of software installed. The device should support the European 4G frequency (LTE 1800 MHz) that the LMT uses. You also require the latest generation LMT SIM card as it is the only card that supports 4G. If we determine that you use an older SIM card, we will substitute it with a new card FREE OF CHARGE!
3. You should have LMT 4G coverage.
Currently, 4G is supported by 4G phones, 4G tablets, 4G USB modems, as well as by 4G Wi-Fi wireless routers. For a device to function in the LMT 4G network, please make sure that it supports the 1800 MHz frequency used by the LTE technology in Europe. If your device supports LTE, but does not support 1800 MHz frequency, it will not function in the LMT 4G network as it does not have the antennae required for the 4G.
Yes! Anyone can enjoy 4G on your phone – both the postpaid services customers and users of LMT Karte.
4G phone should support the 1800 MHz frequency used by the LTE technology in Europe.
To be able to use 4G on your phone you need:
Apple iPad Air (model A1475), Apple iPad Mini Retina (model A1490), Apple iPad 4 (model A1460), and Apple iPad Mini (model A1455) support the LMT 4G network.
If you have purchased your iPad from the LMT, you can rest assured – we offer only the above models that support the frequency of our 4G network. If you have a different iPad model (you can see the model on the back of the case), you will not be able to use it in the LMT 4G network as it does not support the frequencies of the European 4G network.
To be able to use your Apple iPad in the LMT 4G network, you should complete some steps.
1. Make sure that you use Mobile Internet on Computer or Tablet with an activated 4G support and the latest generation SIM card. You can find out if you have one by calling 80768076 or coming to the closest LMT Customer Service Center. We will activate the 4G support and substitute the SIM card FREE OF CHARGE!
2. Update your iPad software settings (Settings –> General –> Software Update).
3. For the iPad to connect to the LMT 4G network, enter the LMT Internet settings in your iPad. Check this link to see how to do that correctly: Settings – Cellular Data – APN Settings. Enter internet.lmt.lv in all APN fields, but leave the Username and Password fields empty.
4. Check this site to see how to enable 4G: Settings – Cellular Data – Enable LTE in the ON mode.
5. Make sure that you are in an area that has LMT 4G coverage – see our coverage map.
If the above is successfully completed, LTE will appear on the top left of the screen. Congratulations! Your iPad has successfully connected to our 4G network.
LMT 4G network is based on the LTE 1800, 2600, 2100, and 800 MHz frequencies. Other frequencies will be added in the future – keep up-to-date with our homepage.
Usually the parameters of the LMT 4G network are automatically set in all devices, when our SIM card is inserted, but manual installation may also be required. In this case enter internets.lmt.lv in the APN settings for 4G/LTE (Internet access point) and leave the password and username fields empty.
No, you should not pay more to use our 4G and 4G+ networks.
4G phones made for the European market function in the LMT 4G network, and they support the LTE 1800 MHz frequency. If you purchased your 4G phone from the LMT, you can rest assured – we offer only models that support the frequency of our 4G network.
If you purchased your 4G phone elsewhere, make sure that your 4G phone supports our 4G network.
Yes, 4G functionality is available to all LMT customers, including those, who use the LMT Karte.
Make sure that you have a suitable device and a SIM card.
