LMT Internet

How do I know if 5G is available at my address?
LMT employee can check it on the coverage map.
How long can I use the 5G router handed out by LMT?
The router can be used for an indefinite period while the LMT Service Agreement is in force.
Do I have to enter into a new LMT Service Agreement?
If you already have the Internet for Home or Internet for Business agreement, the existing terms and conditions remain. If you have no such an agreement, you will have to enter into a new LMT Service Agreement.
Do I have to pay for using the 5G router?
No, using of a MikroTik LMT 5G router is free of charge. You only have to pay for the internet according to the terms and conditions of the existing LMT Service Agreement.
Will I keep the existing router?
No. Upon activation of 5G internet, the service agent will change the existing router to a new one that supports 5G.
Does 5G affect human health?
Health and safety are very important issues that LMT pays its utmost attention. Concerns for 5G impact – the same as for 4G, 3G and 2G – are unfounded.
The electromagnetic field generated by mobile communications has been extensively studied and analysed. All LMT base stations are delivered by certified manufacturers, and the Health Inspection has performed control measurements and has issued an opinion on the safety of the base stations.
What is the expected speed of 5G internet?
Internet speed may vary from place to place, so we will provide a free visit of a service agent who will take internet speed measurements and install a router, if possible.
Actual speed is affected by signal strength, router’s distance from base station, various obstacles (trees, leaves, weather, etc.) and total load of the base station.
When will 5G be available in my place of residence?
We are now actively working to expand the 5G coverage throughout Latvia. Information about the 5G locations will be published on LMT website.

The router can be changed at any of LMT Customer Service Centres.
What should I do if I want to stop using the 5G router?
If you want to stop using the 5G router, the LMT Service Agreement will be terminated and the device will be returned following the standard procedure.
What is 4G?

4G is the fourth generation Internet network that is based on the LTE Internet technology. Internet speed in a 4G network is several times higher than even theoretically possible in a 3G network (theoretical download speed of 150 Mbit/s, upload speed of up to 50 Mbit/s), it is also more stable and has a significantly shorter latency period (time from the activation of an Internet link to the beginning of a download).
4G can be compared to a new highway built along several narrow streets. 4G will be able to meet the demands of all users, offering fast downloading, high resolution video streaming, impeccable gaming performance in real time, etc.
LMT 4G network continuously expands and is currently available in most areas of Latvia.
Check our coverage map for the current 4G coverage.

What is 4G+?

LMT offers 4G+ technology that is able to increase the already high speed of LMT 4G Internet on mobile phones almost twofold. Actual speed depends on the location, number of users per base station and other factors.
4G+ is not subject to any additional charges.

What is the difference between dial-up, 2G, 3G, 4G and 4G+?

Dial-up is the first generation Internet that uses calls instead of packets to transfer data. Very slow, considering modern requirements – only up to 9.6 Kbit/s. Dial-up uses the LMT communications network that covers 98% of Latvia.

2G is the second generation Internet that uses GPRS and EDGE technologies. Unlike dial-up, this technology uses packets to send data, though the speed is still too low for current requirements (up to 236 Kbit/s). LMT 2G network is available in 98% of Latvia.

3G is the third generation Internet that relies on UMTS or W-CDMA, HSPA and HSPA+ technologies. Like 2G, 3G also uses packets to send data though the speed is much higher – up to 21 Mbit/s. LMT has the largest 3G network in Latvia – it is available in 93% of the Latvian territory.

4G

What is the actual speed of LMT 4G?

LMT 4G relies on the advanced LTE technology that can provide for a theoretical download speed of up to 150 Mbit/s and upload speed of up to 50 MBit/s. But in practice this speed is lower and is not guaranteed due to various technical, physical, geographical and other factors (distance to the base station, surrounding buildings, design of buildings, etc.). If the network is not overloaded, the average 4G speed should be available.
Internet speed gauge is available here.

How can I use the functionality of the LMT 4G network?

4G functionality is available to all LMT customers irrespective of the type of their connection, as well as to the users of the LMT Karte.
