Latvian National Tug of War Team wins the 1st place in the World’s Tug of War Championship

The first place in the world and four golden medals – such is a result of the Latvian National Tug of War Team in the World’s Tug of War Championship of this year, which took place in Pretoria, South Africa.

Scale and venue of the championship was a serious examination for the Latvian team both physically as financially. With support of the Latvian Mobile Telephone the team has acquired the competition uniform.

The course of Championship and activities of the Latvian National Tug of War Team in Latvia are commented by Lilita Mukina, Secretary General of the Federation: "Tug of war is sports what has become popular in Latvia already long ago. In 1993 we have established the Latvian Tug of War Federation. Since then we have participated in the tug of war competitions of various scale in Latvia, as well as abroad on a regular basis. Currently we are the only Tug of War Federation in the Eastern Europe, however this sports experiences development – we have already established co-operation with the Lithuanian and Belarussian teams".
